Standing on shoulders.
Stedfast leans on a handful of generous open data sets and projects. Here’s who we owe.
OpenFoodFacts
Barcode scans in the app look up products against OpenFoodFacts — a community-built database of food products with names, brands, quantities, and images contributed by thousands of volunteers around the world. We cache lookups server-side so the first scan of any given barcode is the only one that ever touches their API.
OpenFoodFacts data is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL) and individual contents are CC-BY-SA. When we surface a barcode lookup in the app, we credit OpenFoodFacts inline.
The catalog seed
The preparedness catalog (shelf lives, rotation cadences, storage notes) is researched from primary sources — FDA, USDA, EPA, NFPA, CDC, NIOSH, NRC, manufacturer documentation (Datrex, Mountain House, Sawyer, Composite Resources, Energizer, Cyalume, IOSAT, Z-Medica, and others), and field convention where the experts agree.
